Welcome to the Fifth District!

As your county commissioner, I’m committed to promoting an open and accessible county government that’s accountable and responsive to its constituents. That’s especially important to the people of the Fifth District, which comprises three of the most successful and fastest growing communities in the metropolitan region. Maintaining and enhancing the high quality of life and services that my constituents enjoy is of primary concern to me in my efforts on their behalf. Johnson County’s Fifth District covers the eastern half of Olathe, the southeastern tip of Lenexa, and a sliver of the western portion of Overland Park. The landscape of the district is highlighted by Overland Park’s renowned Johnson County Community College, Stoll Park and Heritage Park, and the Overland Park Regional Medical Center hospital. Located to the southwest of Overland Park, Olathe is home to the award-winning Mid-America Nazarene University and the historic Adam Legler Barn Museum and Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. In addition, the Fifth District includes 17 schools in the Olathe School District, two schools in the Shawnee Mission School District, and represents small portions of the Spring Hill and Blue Valley School Districts.

The prosperity currently enjoyed by Johnson Countians does not come without the financial and logistical challenges of meeting the continued infrastructure needs that comprise the key building blocks of Johnson County’s high quality of life. Throughout my service to the Fifth District, I have remained committed to sustaining a stable mill levy for the county while encouraging thoughtful planning and preparation for the community’s long-term needs. Successfully addressing these challenges requires innovative approaches and public-private partnerships, and I continue to enjoy the challenge of spearheading many of these efforts as a member of the Board of County Commissioners.

I appreciate your interest in your local government and look forward to hearing about your interests, concerns, and ideas on how I can better serve our community as a member of the Board of Commissioners.
