Welcome to the Fourth District!

The Fourth District of the Johnson County Board of Commissioners and the city of Overland Park share a common bond. It’s the only district with boundaries contained within one city, and that city is Overland Park, a community consistently recognized for its outstanding quality of life and thriving local economy.

I, too, share in that bond by calling Johnson County, and Overland Park, my home for more than four decades. It is my honor to serve as your elected Fourth District commissioner.  Your input concerning issues before the Board is important in assisting the commissioners in making the best decisions.

The county’s Fourth District boasts a variety of high-quality neighborhoods that are linked to the surrounding areas, offering a mixture of residential areas with ample greenspace, parks, and streamways with lively commercial districts. This site provides more about the district, and I invite you to take advantage of the many links that are included as part of this website to get to know this area of Johnson County better.

The district’s landscape is highlighted by Historic Downtown Overland Park, home of a weekly Farmer’s Market, the annual Fall Festival, and a variety of unique businesses and restaurants. The Fourth District is also home to the recently completedOverland Park Convention Center, the Corporate Woods business park, and the Sprint campus, which serves as the company’s world headquarters and one of the metropolitan area’s largest employers. The health care needs of district are met by two award-winning hospitals: Menorah Medical Center and Children’s Mercy South. Parks and recreational opportunities and cultural amenities abound in the district, from the Corporate Woods Founders Park to theKansas City Jewish Museum. In addition, the Fourth District includes several schools in the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley public school districts.

Johnson County provides an excellent quality of life and remains a jewel that deserves good stewardship, wise leadership, constant respect, and close attention to the citizen’s voice on important issues that affect their lives. While focused on the needs of the Fourth District, I will remain committed to sustaining the quality of life currently associated with living and working in Johnson County.

Public safety and criminal justice, public works, transportation, human services, taxes, cooperation between local governments, and job opportunities are some of the challenging community issues that must be addressed by the Board of County Commissioners.  Successfully addressing these challenges will require being accessible and responsive to my Fourth District constituents and receiving their thoughts and opinions.

If you, your neighborhood group, homes association, civic club, or any organization would like to stay informed about these or other issues considered by the commission, please don't hesitate to contact me at (913) 715-0434 or through e-mail at ed.eilert@jocogov.org.
