September 6th Meeting Agenda

Our last meeting included an in-depth discussion of what values each of us considered to be critical to decisions regarding what Johnson County and the region's transportation system will look like in the future. Among the values mentioned were: affordable, accessible, environmentally responsible, safety, convenient, and sustainable, among others.

At our next meeting, I would like to continue this conversation by  disseminating and prioritizing  which values are most important, and consider what  actions we can take collectively and as individuals to impact our transportation systems in the near and far term. Please review the notes from our July 21st meeting, paying careful attention to the different values many members of the group indicated as key to future transportation solutions in our region. Be ready to discuss these values, any others that may not have been mentioned as of yet, and how we can focus on these values to move forward.

I also hope that the group can gain consensus on which of the following three approaches will be adopted to structure future group discussions, efforts, and action:

Approach 1: Focus on new modes and ignore adding capacity using the current modes (primarily individual auto-focused).

Approach 2: Focus on adding capacity to the existing system within the existing modal choices (primarily individual auto-focused).

Approach 3: Focus on adding capacity by expanding existing mediums, improving transportation system management, expanding government sponsored modal choice and supporting new modes and mediums (hybrid solution). 

Time permitting, we will break up into small groups  to discuss the components of the adopted approach and how these components can be supported by different entities in a unified manner.
